Ready for another designer collaboration?

Designer Derek Lam, best known for his modern-edge aesthetic, is set to collaborate with Kohl’s department store to release a Spring 2013 collection. This collection will be Kohl’s second marriage to a major designer for its DesigNation project, which focuses on destination-inspired collections. The first collaboration was with Narcisso Rodriguez’s with his Istanbul summer collection.

Lam used Rio De Janeiro—one of the hottest travel destinations of the moment and his most recent vacation spot—as his inspiration for the collection. He told WWD that he’s “always looking to the past for inspiration, but also trying to interpret it as how we live in contemporary life… Rio is a perfect example of a place that does that and leads the way.”

Thinking skimpy beachwear and basic caftans? Think again. Lam’s collection will be based on Rio’s bourgeoning art scene, museums, and botanical gardens. Pieces from the collection will range from $36 to $98 and will be available next April and May at www.kohls.com.
